Department of Agriculture
It functions under the Ministry of Agriculture and has a network of organizations for agricultural development. Its major functions include: research, extension, production of seed and planting material, regulatory services related to plant quarantine, soil conservation and pesticides.

It is the premier national Institute in the field of socio-economic research relating to agrarian sector in Sri Lanka and it provides training to farmers and field workers and also up to date market information to farmers, traders and policy makers.
